Conrad Stoltz

Hailing from a solar-powered farmhouse in eastern South Africa, Conrad "the Caveman" Stoltz boasts a near-mythical athletic resume which propels his celebrity far beyond his rural roots. Perhaps best known as the only athlete ever to wear the XTERRA World Champion crown four times, Conrad also enjoys acclaim on the road triathlon circuit, most notably as a two-time Olympic contender. In the Sydney Olympic Games, he wowed viewers worldwide by breaking away on the bike and leading for a majority of the race. A man of the land from birth, however, Conrad has never met a trail he's failed to conquer, whether on foot, on moto-bike or, most often, on his beloved mountain bike. He's as fearless as they come, and certainly no stranger to duct tape, with his MacGyver-esque approach to equipment failures well-documented in his highly entertaining and widely read blog (www.conradstoltz.com).

Lacking a proper swim facility on his family's farm, Conrad hand-dug a custom single-lane trench to augment his training. At 6'3", Conrad's imposing physique has faced its own share of adversity, including a back and wrist-breaking crash in 2006. At the 2008 XTERRA Richmond, Conrad's foot was brutally severed by a rusty underwater railroad tie at the start line - the Caveman pushed past the pain and raced to victory before receiving emergency medical attention and multiple sutures. There's rarely a dull moment in Conrad's career, and his ever-eager yet down-to-earth personality welcomes each new challenge with both the awe of a child and the expertise of a champion.
